Generic: Selpercatinib

Manufacturer: Eli Lilly

Drug class: Protein kinase inhibitor / Selective RET inhibitor.

Description

Introduction to Tanstrive 160mg Tablet

Tanstrive 160mg Tablet contains selpercatinib, a targeted cancer medicine called a kinase inhibitor. It works by blocking abnormal RET proteins, which can help cancer cells grow and spread.

Tanstrive 160mg Tablet is used to treat certain RET-positive cancers, including some types of lung cancer, thyroid cancer, and other solid tumours.

Do not take Tanstrive if you are allergic to selpercatinib or any of its ingredients. Before treatment, your doctor will perform tests to check whether your cancer has a specific RET gene mutation or fusion.

Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, high blood pressure, heart problems, or any other medical condition. Also inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any other medicines or supplements.

Uses of Tanstrive 160mg Tablet

Tanstrive 160mg Tablet may be used to treat:

  • RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
  • RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer (MTC)
  • RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer that has not responded adequately to radioactive iodine
  • RET fusion-positive solid tumours that have progressed after previous treatment or when there are no suitable alternative treatment options

Your doctor will recommend Tanstrive only when the required RET mutation or fusion is confirmed.

How Tanstrive 160mg Tablet Works

RET is a protein that helps cells grow and divide. Certain changes in the RET gene can make this protein overactive, causing cancer cells to grow uncontrollably.

Tanstrive contains selpercatinib, which blocks abnormal RET signalling. This can help slow down the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Interaction of Tanstrive 160mg Tablet with Other Medicines

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products.

Some medicines can affect how selpercatinib is broken down in the body. In particular, medicines that affect the CYP3A enzyme may change the amount of selpercatinib in your blood.

If you are taking certain CYP3A inhibitors, your doctor may need to adjust your Tanstrive dose. Do not start or stop any medicine without first speaking with your doctor.

Storage

  • Keep Tanstrive 160mg Tablet out of the reach and sight of children.
  • Store the medicine at a temperature not above 25°C.
  • Keep the tablets in their original packaging unless your pharmacist advises otherwise.
  • Do not use the medicine after its expiry date.

How to Take Tanstrive 160mg Tablet

Take Tanstrive exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

The recommended dose of selpercatinib depends on your body weight and medical condition. Patients weighing less than 50 kg are generally prescribed 120 mg twice daily, while patients weighing 50 kg or more are generally prescribed 160 mg twice daily.

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.

Try to take your doses at approximately the same times every day. Treatment is usually continued until the cancer progresses or side effects become unacceptable, unless your doctor recommends stopping earlier.

If you miss a dose, follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
