Description
Introduction to Empaveli 1080mg Injection
Empaveli 1080mg Injection contains pegcetacoplan as its active ingredient and is developed by Apellis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. It is used to treat adults with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH), a rare blood disorder that can cause the destruction of red blood cells, blood clots, and problems with the bone marrow.
Empaveli is a complement C3 inhibitor that helps control the body’s complement system, which can damage red blood cells in people with PNH. Pegcetacoplan binds to a protein called C3 and blocks its activity. This helps reduce the destruction of red blood cells both inside and outside the blood vessels.
By reducing red blood cell destruction, Empaveli can help improve haemoglobin levels and reduce the need for blood transfusions. It is usually given twice a week as a subcutaneous infusion (under the skin). After proper training, some patients may be able to administer the medicine at home as advised by their healthcare provider.
